Kavita Khara is an adept clinician with experience in providing therapeutic services to children, adolescents, and adults. She predominantly works with "the emerging adult" and students. Kavita has supported clients in treatment from depression, anxiety, trauma, and substance abuse in a manner that is both culturally aware and sensitive to an individual's unique needs. She has undergone training in suicide prevention and domestic violence, while honing her skills in dialectical behavioral therapy and trauma informed modalities.
Kavita approaches counseling from a client centered, strengths based orientation and strongly believes in the power of unconditional positive regard. She also utilizes body based techniques to promote living in the present such as mindfulness, deep breathing, and body scans. In addition, Kavita employs cognitive behavioral therapy to help alleviate symptoms and promote growth. Her goal as a therapist is to meet her clients in their current state with empathy while bringing about change that promotes greater functioning and satisfaction in one's life.
Kavita graduated with her Masters in Clinical Psychology, with a concentration in children and adolescent studies, from Benedictine University in 2011. She began her post graduate career as a children's counselor for domestic violence survivors and continues this work as an adovocate in the field. Kavita has siginificant experience providing therapeutic services in a residential setting, treating addictions, eating disorders, mental health, and PTSD. She is licensed by the state of Illinois as a clinical professional counselor and recognized by the National Board of Certified Counselors as a National Certified Counselor.
